I may not only be in the wrong pew but in the wrong church. The decay of values? You mean giving women the right to choose what happens to their own health, in consultation with doctors, without the government's involvement? Freedom to read books without hysterical parents banning Huck Finn? Expecting that a Black woman might run for president without being called a prostitute? Those values? Is it possible that once again the country saw Trump as better than a woman, and a response to someone who was Black, smarter and more qualified? A lot of people in this country could not accept that and preferred to say "the economy," or his "policies," or -- as long as they could blame someone convenient, and JEWS weren't allowed, "immigrants." In my opinion. But I'm new here.

Your lack of comprehension of the tyranny of the current administration and the frustration of the majority of Americans is mind boggling… illegal immigration, open borders, men in women’s sports, weaponization of DA’s and criminal rights over victims’ rights… you are obviously as out of touch with mainstream America (garbage) as the elites of the Democratic Party

You have to get over your TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME! How are you so blind to why he has won so big? You are in such a bubble siloed, off from normal working people. Take a trip via car on the backroads of America. Maybe then you will get reconnected to what being an American is all about.

I'm sorry. But this has been long in coming!! No great mysteries.. Will somebody please read my book, "Rising in the West," published in 1992 (when Clinton got only 43 percent of the vote and Perot nearly 20 percent).. It detailed the roots (and culture) of the populism that fueled Reagan, Gingrich and now Trump.

"The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. Much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it"- Galadriel

I began with the opening monologue to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Why? Americans have had a new reckoning with this election. One that seeks to prevent the furthering of a slow decaying of the values that it was once founded on. It is like a whisper felt across demographics and psychographics not just in America but across the world; that something is fundamentally wrong with the current state of affairs. And the antidote? It dwells within libertarian conservatism, the roots of MAGA.

As you are well aware, a hair more than half the country is sick and tired of the direction the Clinton/Obama/Biden cartel have taken our Country. Upgrade to paid??? You're kidding, right?

Amen David. This guy is so out of touch. NPR is NOT relevant to the REAL WORLD. These people also fail to realize that Bush/Cheney are just as evil as Clinton/Obama/Biden cartel!

I feel for you. After a century of Wilson, FDR, Johnson, Clinton, Obama, and Biden America had almost succeeded in becoming Communist. Now, after all of that progress at least half of America rejected all of that Marxist enlightenment and elected a president who might be able to unwind the ties that had nearly bound them into chains of Communist prison. How dare they reject such an enlightened future that is so enjoyed by Russia, China, North Korea, Viet Nam, Cuba, Europe, Venezuela, and more. We were so close to Utopia!

You left out that the Bush's were just as Establishment as Wilson, FDR, Johnson, Clinton, Obama, and Biden America. They hid it in their fake Conservative rhetoric. I never bought the BS Compassionate Conservative. That just meant a big government fan.

MOST disheartening, Peter, from this left side of the Atlantic in Paris, is the sad reality that it was not a few thousand or even hundred thousand voters in a handful of (swing) states or the archaic arcanae of the Electoral College system. THIS time, it seems, a MAJORITY OF ALL AMERICANS who voted chose HIM. Omg ....... THAT is the saddest commentary of all.......
